About SAMA

The SAMA Organisation was founded in 1978 by the Chief Instructor Hanshi Alan Gibson. With over 60 years of karate experience and over 40 years of kickboxing experience, he is regarded as one of the top martial artists in the world. In 2026 after many decades of service, Hanshi Alan Gibson stepped down from running the organisation. SAMA Organisation changed it's structure from one club with many areas, to present day, where we run and operate independently as several distinct clubs. SAMA Organisation, and other clubs in the SAMA Franchise, may be contracted by SAMA South Coast to provide services, such as external examiners, weapons and high-grade training. 

About SAMA South Coast

SAMA South Coast is a part of the SAMA Franchise, but operates independently, with its own distinct insurance, policies and governance.

SAMA South Coast is a Karate and Kickboxing Martial Arts club, specialising in after school, kids and family classes. 

SAMA South Coast was established in 2026 and is headed by Yondan Kane Standing. He has over 25 years karate and kickboxing experience, 15 years of teaching experience and 5 years as a deputy head of area - he has more than enough experience under his belt! Kane has also competed in semi-professional K1 and Kickboxing, and coaches a small team to compete in K1 Kickboxing.

You may see Kane referred to as "Lead Instructor, Head of Area, Head of SAMA South Coast or Club Manager." These terms are used interchangeably. "The Lead Instructor or Club Manager is the primary account holder in BMABA. After School Classes

After school classes are booked in advance to secure your childs spot in the class, and ensure we have contact details for a parent or guardian. You can book a no-obligation 2 week trial, to see if your child enjoys the class. After the two-week trial, your child will need a SAMA membership. This is their insurance. It gives them access to both Karate and Kickboxing classes across the SAMA South Coast area, gradings and other adhoc events.

Our priority is looking after the children and young people we coach. We ensure our instructors are not just good at teaching Karate and Kickboxing. We ensure they are well-informed, safe, and knowledgeable about safeguarding, first aid, and caring for your children. The training we provide isn't a one-off tick box. We encourage ongoing training to keep their knowledge up to date.

Your instructors and helpers have a big job: to keep you safe, happy, and protected at all times.

⭐ Our Rules for Instructors & Helpers

To make sure you are always safe, every adult who teaches or helps in our classes must:

• Be Fully Vetted: Pass special police background checks (called an Enhanced DBS).
• Be First Aid Trained: Know exactly how to help you if you get a bump or a scrape.
• Be Safeguarding Certified: Take special classes to learn how to look after children properly.

🛑 No Bullying Allowed!

Martial arts is about respect and kindness. We have a zero-tolerance rule for bullying - for kids and adults! This means:

• Be Kind: No hitting, kicking, or hurting anyone outside of safe, supervised training.
• No Mean Words: No teasing, name-calling, or making anyone feel left out.
• Online Safety: No sending mean messages or being unkind to club members on phones or computers.
• Speak Up: If someone is being mean to you or anyone else, tell an instructor straight away. We are here to help!

📸 Photos and Social Media Rules

We love celebrating your hard work, but we also protect your privacy!

• Permission First: We or your parents will never take or post photos of you unless your parents have signed a permission form.
• No Secret Photos: No one is allowed to take secret photos or videos during class or in the changing areas.
• Safe Sharing: Photos taken by the club will only be shared on our official social media pages to show off your amazing skills and grading achievements!

SAMA South Coast Terms & Conditions

1. Introduction

Welcome to SAMA South Coast. These Terms & Conditions govern your membership, training, and participation in any activities associated with the club, including in-person and online services.

By enrolling in our classes, using our website, or engaging with our club in any way, you agree to abide by these terms.

2. Membership & Fees

2.1 Membership Registration

All students must complete a registration form before participating in training. This includes providing relevant medical history, emergency contact details, and any additional safeguarding information where applicable.

2.2 Membership Fees & Payments

• All training fees, membership payments, and associated costs must be paid in advance.
• Class term payments secure your child's space in the class. Our pricing is fixed for the full term and isn’t affected by individual attendance. We’re unable to offer refunds for missed classes.
• Payment methods accepted include cash, card, bank transfer, direct debit, or other club-approved payment platforms.
• Failure to pay membership fees may result in suspension from classes until outstanding payments are settled.
• Membership fees are non-transferable.

2.3 Refunds

• Refunds will not be issued for missed sessions, unless in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of SAMA South Coast.
• If a student cancels their membership within the first 14 days of joining, a full refund may be issued if no training has taken place.
• Partial refunds for long-term injuries or illness may be considered with medical evidence.

3. Class & Private Lesson Cancellations

3.1 Regular Class Cancellations

• Classes may occasionally be cancelled or rescheduled due to unforeseen circumstances, such as instructor illness or venue unavailability.
• If SAMA South Coast cancels a class, students will be offered an alternative session or credit towards future training.

3.2 Private Lesson Cancellation Policy

• Private lessons must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance to receive a reschedule opportunity.
• Failure to provide adequate notice will result in the full lesson fee being charged.

4. Code of Conduct & Behaviour

To ensure a safe and respectful training environment, all students and parents must adhere to the following:

• Respect instructors, fellow students, and all club personnel at all times.
• No foul language, bullying, or aggressive behaviour will be tolerated.
• Students must arrive on time, in appropriate training attire, and with the necessary equipment.
• Parents/guardians must respect instructor-led classes and avoid interfering with coaching unless invited to participate.

5. Safeguarding & Welfare

SAMA South Coast is committed to safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

• All instructors and relevant staff are DBS-checked and receive safeguarding training.
• Any safeguarding concerns should be reported immediately to the designated safeguarding officer, Aimee Standing at safeguarding@samasouthcoast.co.uk, or to BMABA’s Safeguarding Team at safeguarding@bmaba.org.uk or by calling 01798 306546.

6. Use of the Club’s Website & Digital Resources

By accessing our website and online resources, you agree to:

• Use our website in accordance with UK laws and regulations.
• Not distribute, copy, or misuse any content from SAMA South Coast without permission.
• Not engage in any unauthorised sharing or distribution of club-provided materials.

7. Photography & Videography

From time to time, photographs and videos may be taken during training sessions for club marketing and promotional purposes.

• Students or parents/guardians will be required to provide written consent before any media featuring them is used publicly.
• Any participant who does not wish to be photographed or recorded must notify the club in writing.
• Images and videos will be stored securely in line with GDPR regulations.

8. Liability & Assumption of Risk

Martial arts training involves physical contact and carries an inherent risk of injury.

• All students train at their own risk and must sign an assumption of risk form before participating.
• SAMA South Coast will not be held liable for personal injury, loss, or damage unless caused by proven negligence.
• Students are responsible for ensuring they are physically fit to participate and must disclose any medical conditions that may impact their training.

9. Data Protection & Privacy

SAMA South Coast complies with the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.

• Personal data collected from students is used solely for membership, safety, and communication purposes.
• Data will not be shared with third parties without consent unless required by law.

10. Complaints Procedure

If you have a complaint, please follow the procedure below:

• Raise concerns informally with the instructor or club manager.
• If unresolved, submit a formal complaint in writing to SAMA South Coast via email or post.
• If the complaint relates to safeguarding or is not resolved, it can be escalated to BMABA’s Safeguarding Team via safeguarding@bmaba.org.uk or by calling 01798 306546.

11. Amendments & Updates

SAMA South Coast reserves the right to update these Terms & Conditions as necessary. Any significant changes will be communicated via email or posted on our website.

By training with SAMA South Coast, you acknowledge and agree to these Terms & Conditions.

After-school classes are open to children age 5+. Book your child's spot in after-school classes here. Term prices are calculated pro-rata, and are dependent on the number of weeks in the term. Each class works out as £6. Term bookings secure your child's space in the class. Classes are not refundable for non-attendance. You will need to purchase a membership to book your child's space in the class.

Your membership will start and payment will both take place on 01/09/2026. This is to ensure an easy transition whilst we are undergoing a restructure.

Gradings

Progressing through Karate and Kickboxing gradings is an important part of every student’s journey, offering the chance to demonstrate growing skill, confidence, and discipline. Our grading days provide a supportive environment where students can showcase their techniques, meet SAMA South Coast students from other classes and take the next step toward their goals. Each grading is designed to recognise hard work, celebrate achievement, and inspire continued development both inside and outside the dojo.

We hold several grading days per year. Students are taught their grade syllabus in class. It is important your child wears their current grade belt, so instructors can easily identify what part of the syllabus they should be working on. Students will need to practice their grade moves outside of classes, and as they progress up the grades, they may need to train more frequently. Your class instructor will award students 'Stripes' for hard work and for demonstrating good technique. Students need 3 stripes on their belt to attend gradings, and the instructor will inform you when you are ready for grading.

We recommend most students attend a pre-grade. This is an opportunity to practice your grade moves one final time with an experienced instructor, gain your last stripe (if needed) and to shake off any last-minute nerves.

All students of your grade go into the grade hall together, and the chief examiner will watch the whole group perform their grade moves. Some students may be asked to demonstrate in front of everyone - this is usually a good thing and means you are setting a high standard! 

The successfully graded students will then be taken down to the hall to be presented and show off their new belt and certificate. We welcome friends and family to wait in the hall to congratulate our students. 

On the rare occasion a student does not pass the grading, an instructor will take the student to their parent or guardian in private and give some feedback. We are glad to say this is a rare occurence, as our skilled instructors don't send students to gradings if they aren't ready.
